UN-NAMED

A VISUAL STORY PAIRING MY KEY MEMORIES WITH VARIOUS ROOMS OF A HOUSE.

PROJECT GOal

To draw a parallel between the rooms of a house and the chambers of the mind. To express the process of thought from the conscious mind to the sub-conscious and back. To show the journey of an individual fervently pursuing who they were created to be against all odds.

From HANA

“I really want to shine a spotlight on the challenges of my journey as a creative. From mental blocks to the mundane experience of managing a household, I aim to highlight my becoming despite the seeming obstacles of Mother, Wife & Daily Life. You can help fund the project below if you would like to help make this a reality.”

THE SOUNDS

A dark, narrow hallway or corridor with brick walls on either side and a wooden ceiling. At the end of the hallway, there is a window allowing natural light to leak in, illuminating some dust particles floating in the air.

OUBLIETTE: TRAPPED IN THE MIND

Our character currently lives in the deepest, darkest parts of their mind. Every day is a repetitive cycle of the same old song, replaying the same memories of the past, most of them negative/traumatic. Our character sees that the door is open, but cannot seem to find the way out.

THE HALL: A DAUNTING JOURNEY

Our character has managed to find themselves out of the basement and now stands in the midst of a long, daunting hallway. Attached to it are a few rooms that signify pivotal moments that defined their being. With hesitation, our character proceeds down the corridor.

SWEET MEMORY: A MOMENT OF NORMALCY

From the hall, our character enters the first room on the right. They see a pot of boiling water and a steaming kettle. They are greeted by a domestic version of themself and is directed to sit at the table. They are served a cup of tea and a tasty dish. This moment feels warm and inviting. It reminds them of their grandmother's kitchen. There are no words. Just the soundtrack of the kitchen.

TO THYSELF: TAKING REFUGE

Filled with a little bit of joy, our character enters the hall once more. They find themself in the next room on the left. They see a bed and a side table with a notebook and dimly lit lamp. They begin to write. In between the pages of the notebook, they find photos from their past that recall both happy and sad memories. Our character is in tears. They put the book down and lay down for a moment. Still crying, a pair of arms envelopes our character's body. They take refuge into that being. And then . . . Peace.

THE OVERWHELM: WHEN IT’S JUST TOO MUCH

Leaving the bedroom and continuing down the hall, our character enters the next room on the right. They see a couch, children's toys, a pile of misplaced clothes and a desk with a stack of messy papers. Overwhelmed by the chaos and clutter, our character retreats back to the hall.

LAUNDRY ROOM BAPTISM: A WASHING + RENEWAL

I. From the hall, our character finds themself in the laundry room. Deciding to load the washer, they begin to pull clothing from the basket. After all the clothes have been loaded, they begin to pull clothing from their head as if they're pulling soiled thoughts from their mind. Our character starts the washer and then lays on the laundry room floor.

II. Our character wakes up from their slumber saturated in water. The Laundry room, now flooded, creates a moment of tranquility. Our character seems unphased, comforted by the floating clothes and laundry basket. Under the water is a glimmering object. They decide to submerge themselves swimming deeper towards the light.

THE STAIRCASE: THE CHOICE TO TRANSCEND

Emerging from the water, our character seems different. They enter the hall for the last time. At it's very end exists an illuminated stair case. Drawn to it, our character moves forward. After arriving at the staircase, they place their feet on the first stair. Standing there at the bottom, frozen and pensive, They look toward the top. Here lies a pivotal moment of choice. Will they retreat back into themselves? Back into the hall? Or will they choose to climb and make the choice to transcend?

HANA INTERLUDE • THE UPPER ROOM

THE UPPER ROOM: AN ODE TO THE KING

Our character is in the final stages of their journey. They have made their choice. Walking around a bright empty room, they come upon a small door. Unable to fit through, they take a second to close their eyes. With the door in mind they focus on seeing it unlocked. Upon opening their eyes, they are now seated inside with nothing but a single lit candle. Only able to see their hands, our character finds comfort in this place. They begin to hum a familiar melody. And now, we witness a love song to the one that holds their heart.

FRAMES OF REALITY: A SHIFT OF THE MIND

For the first time, we see our character outside standing at an elevated place. Transformed by a new connection, we see them understanding life in a new way. In a quick montage style, they see life from its genesis. They humanity as we know it. The good, the bad, their strengths and flaws, our character understands themselves and the purpose of their prior experience. They accept what has been, what is and what is to come.

HANA THE SUBCONSCIOUS

We return to the basement to find our character ripping up the floors. Light is peaking through and they are desperate to reach it. Making a large enough opening, our character climbs downward. We see a plain white room with one blue wall. When they think a thought, the wall changes color and creates a new reality. Having met their subconscious, our character now understands the workings of the mind and the level of caution with which they have to proceed. In the corner of the room shines a golden key. Our character emerges from the basement, reaches for the key and locks the door.

FUND THE PROJECT

I haven’t made this official yet, but I plan to start making this concept a reality in summer 2026.
